ikarus is one of the leading retailers for designer furniture, lighting and furnishing elements based in Germany. In order to meet current customer requirements, they decided to redesign and optimise their online shop at the same time. 


ikarus was founded in 1993 by Volker Hohmann and is one of the best-known German retailers for designer furniture, lighting and interior design. For many years, the focus was on "catalogue sales" in addition to the two stationary shops in Frankfurt and Stuttgart. The now legendary ikarus catalogue first appeared on newsstands in 1994. From an initial print run of 100,000 copies, the circulation grew to 650,000. In 1997, ikarus set up its first online shop and was one of the first mail order companies with its own homepage. From a small selection of products at the time, the complete range of over 20,000 products is now available online and can be ordered immediately.

With the changing customer needs and the goal to expand the online shop, they decided to optimise the search and navigation in order to meet the high expectations of the customers. ikarus asked Divante, and Findologic for help, as they needed partners who could guarantee transparency in the process and implement the project in an extremely short time frame.

The Findologic Experience

In close cooperation with the E-Commerce Solution Company Divante and using the native Shopware 6 Plugins von Findologic war die Optimierung der Customer Experience nicht nur zeitlich schnell abgeschlossen, sondern auch die Erwartungen übertroffen.   • The Shopware 6 Plugin acted as the API. As speed of implementation was critical for this project Shopware and Divante were able to connect the client to our world-class product search platform in a very short time.
  • Using the latest version of our Assisted Suggest users are directly inspired and guided with product recommendations as soon as they interact with the ikarus search bar. As the online shop is fully mobile-focused, users also benefit from the smooth Suggest overlay on smartphones, including native language support.
  • Die „Smart-did-you-mean“-Funktionalität wurde implementiert, so dass erfolglose Suchen vermieden werden, nur weil ein Kunde einen Tippfehler gemacht hat.
  • Findologic's filter navigation now delivers clearer results and a sleeker, less clunky interface across all devices. Users benefit directly from a seamless connection to the most relevant products, with fewer touch points, rather than scrolling through endless results.


Ikarus needed partners with a transparent process, clear partnership rules and honest communication who are experts in their field and work according to the best-of-breed concept.

Quality management was very important for all stakeholders and the cooperation with the ikarus team was smooth and productive. As a result, all of the company's goals were achieved, giving us one of the highest Net Promoter Scores (NPS) in history, nine out of ten.
